West Orange has some of the SMARTest residents anywhere. Our community asks thoughtful
questions and expects practical, responsible solutions. That’s why my campaign is built
around S.M.A.R.T. leadership that is focused, accountable, and rooted in real
experience.
I am focusing on the “S” in S.M.A.R.T. -Safety, Seniors, and Special Needs.
Safety & Accountability:
Every resident deserves to feel safe in their own home and confident that our public
safety systems work as they should. After personally experiencing a serious safety
incident—when someone entered my enclosed porch and began banging on my door
late at night—I saw firsthand how gaps in documentation, transparency, and follow-
through can leave residents feeling vulnerable and unheard. Public safety must focus
on prevention, accountability, and trust, not just enforcement. As Councilman, I will
advocate for clear and consistent incident documentation so patterns and repeat issues
are addressed early, support visible neighborhood patrols focused on deterrence and
community engagement, and emphasize safety-first policing guided by professional
judgment and community needs, not revenue targets. Public safety works best when
residents trust the system—and trust begins with transparency and accountability.
Seniors: Transportation, Mobility & Emergency Response:
Every senior should feel that a reliable system is in place to support them. Having
served as my mother’s caregiver for many years after she suffered a massive stroke, I
understand firsthand the challenges seniors and their families face. As Councilman, I
will support expanding evening and weekend senior transportation hours, exploring
partnerships with ride-share services such as Uber—modeled after successful
programs in communities like Montclair—to provide flexible and affordable mobility, and
strengthening emergency response by ensuring first responders, have the staffing,
training, and resources they need to respond quickly and effectively.
Special Needs: Advocacy, Access & Coordination:
Families navigating special-needs services deserve partnership, transparency, and
respect. As a parent of a child on the spectrum who has worked through NJ Early
Intervention, NJ PerformCare, and outpatient therapies, I know how difficult it can be to
secure services families are entitled to receive. I also recognize and respect the
dedication of special-education educators and staff who work every day under
challenging conditions. While the Town Council does not oversee the Board of
Education, it does have a responsibility to advocate, collaborate, and speak up when
systems fail families. As Councilman, I will be a strong public advocate when families
raise concerns about evaluations, services, or delays and push for transparency and
accountability when families encounter red tape instead of answers. I will strongly
support collaboration with organizations such as the West Orange Special Education
Parent Advisory Council (WOSEPAC). Protecting children means standing up for
families—especially when they feel unheard.
